Farm Land of Best Stevia Company in the Philippines: Sweet & Fit Farm

TheSweet and Fit Farm is where it all began for the owner of GIDC Philippines, Mrs. Maura De Leon, and the best stevia company in the Philippines. The Sweet and Fit farm can be found in Brgy. Tambobong, Bocaue, Bulucan and is open for visitors. Guests are often taken aback by the size of the 2-hectare demonstration farm. There are more than 100 plots, each planted to at least 200 hills of stevia. Once the plants are established after five to seven months, the first harvest may be made. Succeeding harvests are made every 15 days afterwards.

What is amazing is that Glorious Industrial and Development Corporation operates several other stevia plantations in different areas in Bulacan. This is great because it gives job opportunities and stable sources of income to members of the community. Currently, there are more than 40 farmers growing stevia for Sweet and Fit. It has always been a goal of Mrs. De Leon to help farmers grow and improve their skills in farming.

The Queen of Philippines Stevia: Maura de Leon

“Farmers don’t just work until the sun goes down but they work until the job gets done.”

Farming is not only a masculine job; it is about strength, courage, responsibility, and hard work that women are just as capable of. These traits can be found in the Queen of the Philippine Stevia, Maura de Leon.

Mrs. Maura David de Leon is an enterprising businesswoman with a special interest in farming because she was raised on a farm in the barrio where her father was a progressive farmer. According to Business Mirror, “Maura de Leon had all the reasons to opt for a more laidback, fashionable and more propitious business, having tried and excelled in several businesses before, the farmer in her compelled her to venture into probably one of the rarest, yet very healthy agricultural plants – stevia”.

Because of her hard work and courage, she established a farm of Stevia called the Sweet and Fit Farm in Brgy. Tambobong, Bocaue, Bulacan. The Sweet and Fit Farm become the pioneer commercial Philippine Stevia grower and processor and is accredited by the Department of Tourism. But this kind of success was not accomplished overnight. In her interview with Business Mirror, she said that the business was very challenging for her from the start. There were even times when she wanted to let go of the stevia farm and pursue another business.

Of course, planting stevia was a big challenge for Mrs. Maura de Leon and her team. For the first three years of the farm business, it was a testing period since they were not familiar with the plant. During this time, she thought her efforts were going nowhere.

“Sobra ang pinagdaanan namin kasi nag-start kami from zero, ang naalala ko lang basta lusob ako ng lusob, basta ang nasa isip ko lang, may kinabukasan ito kahit anong discouragement sa paligid, parang hindi ko pinakikinggan, naka focus talaga ako na possible yan kahit yung mga tinatanim ko ay namamatay lahat.”

But then, something happened. One day her father approached her and asked if she was still devoted and questioned her resolve, but she gave him a quick reply with a convincing nod. Her father then said something she would never forget. Her father gave her a reminder that made her push even harder to do her finest work ever.

“He told me, anak, ituloy mo, tulungan mo mga magsasaka. (While pointing at a painting hanging on the wall) Tignan mo yung kalabaw, mataba pa kaysa farmer.”

Because of this, she realized that she should not give up and commit 100% to the business. In their fifth year, she and her team were finally able to produce their first Stevia product. Thanks to an engineer she met from the Department of Science and Technology, she was introduced to spray-drying technology. It was the break she needed in order to manufacture Sweet and Fit Stevia powder properly.

The success of the business is a great source of happiness for Mrs. Maura de Leon as her dream of helping poor farmers has become a reality.

Toll Manufacturing

Some of the Small Business Enterprise (SME) in the Philippines don’t know about toll manufacturing. Toll manufacturing is a service provided by another company who specializes in producing large or small scale blends for other companies that want to make a product without having to invest in special equipment. Stevia in itself has advantages, but the process of toll manufacturing does too.

1. No Capital Investment

One of the reasons why companies choose toll manufacturing is because they want to avoid the unwanted capital investment. In other words, toll manufacturing can help save money. Who doesn’t want that? With toll manufacturing, you don’t have to invest money into specialized equipment, manpower, or space to accommodate production. The toll manufacturer already has all of these things. It will give you the freedom to use your money in other things including investing in new products that can help your company grow.

2. Raw Materials

Raw materials, also known as feedstock, are basic materials that are used to produce goods or create a finished product. With toll manufacturing, the manufacturer can purchase and store raw materials for you. This can help you simplify the manufacturing process. At the same time, it helps you save money. The materials or ingredients can be also be supplied by the emerging company in order to control the sourcing quality of your raw materials.

3. Customization

One of the best benefits of toll manufacturing is customization. Toll manufacturers understand that different companies want different outputs, so they are prepared to cater to customized formats and packaging options. This ability to customize is great if you are looking for something specific, especially if you do not want to spend the time and money making your product yourself.

4. Storage

Some of the businesses here in the Philippines have problem storing their products, and that is exactly why toll manufacturing might be the best for your business. Toll manufacturers can store your end product, saving you space. Some of the toll manufacturers can coordinate on site storage, off-site warehousing, and even the final delivery of your product. Because of this, the stress for your storage and delivery will be taken off your hands.

5. Flat Fee

The Flat Fee, also known as flat rate or a linear rate, refers to a pricing structure that charges a single fixed fee for a service, regardless of usage. The toll manufacturing flat fee is another way toll manufacturing can save you money. No matter how much you increase production, the cost won’t.

6. Quality Products

An amazing benefit of toll manufacturing is the quality products that they can produce because products are not manufactured by the company itself. Toll manufactures have to do a good job in production if they want to stay in business, and that is why they are highly skilled and experts in production activities. This means that they are more efficient and can produce high-quality products at lower costs. This lets companies focus on other factors like strategic and future planning which will help them grow.

7. More Focus on Selling Activities

Toll manufacturers help companies by paying attention to the functional areas. Selling products is an important aspect of businesses, especially for SME’s that have to overcome competition in order to survive.  Companies, by outsourcing its production activities, have more time to focus on activities like marketing and sales.

8. Easy Entry in Markets

There are various trade barriers in many countries that make it difficult to do business there. Companies cannot just enter and sell their products abroad.
